FOUR WINGS AND A PRAYER is a visually rich and exciting new documentary about one of the world’s most beautiful and mysterious creatures: the Monarch butterfly. Nowhere in nature is there a more powerful mix of scientific marvel, awesome beauty, and epic struggle for survival. This documentary, shot in stunning High Definition video, is a journey into the Monarch’s secret and fascinating world. We will visit the spectacular locations it calls home, meet its friends and enemies (including humans in both camps), and fly with it on one of the most inspiring migratory odysseys imaginable.
DIANA PANTON
“…Canada’s next great jazz singer.” Tim Perlich, NOW Magazine
"She’s so soulful … I know she means every word she sings.” Sheila Jordan
“Aesthetically wonderful.” Dr. Yusef Lateef
Diana Panton is being heralded as one of Canada’s most promising jazz vocalists. She has appeared on the covers of NOW Magazine (Toronto), VIEW Magazine (Hamilton) and Hamilton Magazine. Her debut album, “…yesterday perhaps,” was selected for
The TOP 10 discs of 2005 by Tim Perlich (NOW Magazine) and Len Dobbin (Montreal
Mirrorr). The album also won “Best Jazz Recording” and the publicly-voted
“Best Live Performance” at the 2005 Hamilton Music Awards. Panton’s keen aesthetic sense has attracted the attention of some of the jazz world’s most respected masters. Panton has performed with jazz luminaries including Peter Appleyard, Guido Basso, Mike Murley, Phil Nimmons, Neil Swainson and Kenny Wheeler. Her debut album and sophomore release feature fruitful collaborations with two of Canada’s foremost jazz musicians, guitarist Reg Schwager and multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson.
Her much awaited sophomore release, “if the moon turns green …” was officially released in September of 2007 to international acclaim. Of the album Cathy Riches of Wholenote Magazine stated, “sometimes buzz is justified and sometimes it isn’t. In Panton’s case, I am happy to add my voice to the chorus of praise and report that the buzz is utterly justified.”
The album was selected as a TOP 10 Canadian Jazz Recording of 2007 by Len Dobbin, Kathya Heppell and Dan Sich. It earned Panton recognition as the “Best Female Vocalist” at the 2008 Hamilton Music Awards and a nomination in the same category at the National Jazz Awards. The album was also a first place jury selection for the prestigious Jazz à Juan Révélations 2008 (Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival, France) where Diana was voted “Première Dauphine” by the Juan public. “if the moon turns green …” is currently nominated for “Best Vocal Jazz Album” at the 2009 JUNOS.
